Garth Burns

District 5 Director

Garth Burns, recently elected as an APAS Director for District Four, lives just east of Drake Saskatchewan on the Burns' family farm. Garth started farming with his father in 1966 and continues to manage and operate the cereal and oilseeds farm with his wife, Doris and their daughter and son-in-law.

Garth has been actively involved in his community for some time and has been an RM councillor since 1987 and is presently the Deputy Reeve for the RM of Prairie Rose #309. Garth is also Chairman  of the Lanigan/Delwood Creek Watershed Committee, Executive member of the Drake and District Fire Brigade and is a past-member of the Saskatchewan Seed Growers Association. He was also  elected to the Western Canadian Grains Standards Committee in 2007 and continues in that roel even today.

Garth was elected to the APAS Board in August of 2008 and is an active member of the Grains and Oilseeds Committee. Garth continues to add new ideas and perspectives to further the goals of the organization and to ensure the future of sustainable and profitable farming in our province.

Garth's favourite pastimes when not farming or developing ag policy are flying, fishing, curling and hunting.

Garth's excellent sense of humour took center stage (literally) at the 2010 APAS AGM as Ventriloquist, Magician and Comedian Doug Arden enlisted the District 5 Director's help at the Tuesday evening banquet.
